Orthodox

He went to school, she stayed at home. She protested, she had to be scorned. I explained to her the rules of nature That some flowers ripen, others wither Yet they call me "Orthodox" She was betrothed to one of our own, She mustered some courage to pronounce her love for another I had to silence her passion with vigor For he did not breed our color Yet I'm labelled "Orthodox" Her skirt had a short hemline  She travelled all alone after 9 Eight is a ripe age, it's all so fine  But when this black sheep was preyed on by circling Hawks I was criticised as the Orthodox I can't comprehend the fads of this generation I know I'm being ushered to extinction This pride of mine may drive me to perdition But I won't mutilate my walks and talks  For I am a proud Orthodox. Sayli K.  Note: Orthodox is a satire written from the perspective of an orthodox.
